Trying to identify painting done in 1840 by painter with last name
letters vedon. Can't make out first three(?) letters of the name.
There are two paintings showing a woman in a light blue dress with big
curls down the sides of her face.

I believe the artist you are seeking is Pierre Louis ("Henri")
Grevedon, a Frenchman who lived from 1776-1860.    Although he seems
to be known primarily for his lithographs, he apparently also created
some paintings.  All of the images of his works that I have found are
portraits of young women, which certainly fits your general
description of the genre of the work in question.
