After some fruitless attempts to locate the clothing manufacturer and
its website, I performed a search for the term "Seldom" at the online
database of the United States Patent And Trademark Office. I was
successful and received the following data:
SELDOM - Registered August 11, 1992 as a US Trademark for Seldom
Herrenmoden International GmbH, Bischofsruthstr.12, 5453 Horhausen,
Germany.
"Herrenmoden" means "men's fashions", and the trademark referred to
all kinds of clothing, also typical women's clothes. So this is
without any doubt the company that made your leather coat.
However, I was suspicious. The 4-digit-zip code of Horhausen is
outdated, Germany changed to 5-digit-codes in June 1993. Also, as
current owner of the trademark a certain Bernhard Schragen in Kreuztal
is listed. As further research revealed, Herr Schragen is a furniture
manufacturer and in no way associated with the production of clothes.
I did a second check for the term "Seldom", this time using the
British Patent Office's online database. The result: The Seldom
company registered the trademark in the United Kingdom on June 26,
1992 and the entry was renewed in 1998, although it is not said by
whom. But also here, only the outdated 4-digit-zip code is listed.
I then searched for the town where Seldom was located, Horhausen. I
located the community's website, where I found out that the correct
street name should have been "Bischof-Rüth-Strasse" instead of what
was listed in the trademark offices' databases. But there is no trace
of an existing clothing company, also not in the phone directories.
The implications are that Seldom is not existing anymore; obviously,
the company went bankrupt and was closed in the past few years.
Otherwise, they woud have never sold their registered brand.
