I would like to know how much is paid to display advertising on
vehicles in cities. For example there are many 'Smart' cars zipping
around Paris, France featuring a variety of advertising. My question:
What does this type of advertising cost?

Howdy, uzzz.

The generic name for this kind of thing is "wrap advertising."

Are you mainly seeking the cost of purchasing the printed "wrap"
itself, or are you looking for an estimate of the package cost
including the hire of the vehicle? Is Paris the only location that
you're interested in?

Hello Pink

I am basically interested in the package cost. You have peaked my
curiousity about the actual cost of the wrap. As far as locations I am
open to a variety of cities.

Thank you for your interest in this question.

I've gathered some general information for you about vehicle wrap
advertising. For specific price quotes, you'll need to make contact
with one of the firms involved; they don't typically post their prices
online. If you need assistance in locating an appropriate firm in a
certain city, I'll be glad to help.

From what I have read, it appears that most "wrapped" vehicles belong
to the customers whose ad is being displayed. There are a few
companies that "farm out" the wraps by soliciting private individuals'
cars, and compensating those individuals.

"How much does it cost?
To determine the cost of wrapping a vehicle, a number of variables
need to be taken into account. These include vehicle type, quantity of
vehicles, location, graphic coverage, life expectancy of graphics and
warranty/guarantee requirements. To help you determine the viability
of a project, below are ?ballpark? costs for the most popular
vehicles. Please note that these are for a one off vehicle wrap, using
customer supplied artwork and the vehicle being delivered to our
Edenbridge premises for application. It also assumes full coverage of
the vehicle, including any windows."

Smart Car - £900
VW Beetle - £1,200
Ford Transit Connect - £1,400
Mwb Transit - £1,700
Mercedes CL600 - £2,000
Double Decker Bus - £7,000"

"Costs for car wraps depend on the size of the vehicle and amount of
graphics applied, but typically begin at $2-3K."

Ads on Wheels: Why Buy A Vehicle Wrap?
http://www.adsonwheels.com/why_buy_vehicle_wraps/

"Traditional billboard advertising ranges from about $600 to $2400 a
month. Compare this to a company van 'fully-wrapped' price of about
$3500 -- with a high-quality wrap that can last up to five years --
and it's easy to see how cost-effective vehicle wraps can be. And a
wrap typically generates about 8 million impressions in a year.
Multiply this by five years and no other advertising medium comes
close to the low cost per viewing."

"How much do vehicle wraps cost?
Many things factor into wrap pricing. Size of vehicle, amount of
graphics coverage, and design time are taken into consideration. Curvy
vehicles and vehicle with lots of surface obstacles are more
expensive. A Beetle or Hummer is more difficult than a boxy Ford
Econoline, for example. Full car wraps are usually in the $2,500-3,000
range. Larger vans are in the neighborhood of $3,000-4,000."

Pink's most satisfactory answer took a different direction than the
original question: "I would like to know how much is paid to display
advertising on
vehicles in cities."

The material cost of wrap advertising is only part of the expense.
The car owners also get paid, of course.
I once asked someone who sold car roof signs. I have forgotten the
details, but basically the owners got paid by the mile/kilometer
driven, and there were some other factors/controls that made logical
sense when I heard them.

Myoarin,

As I said in my answer, firms that do this kind of thing typically do
not post their prices online. One exception is the AutoMurals site
(linked above). It's a Flash site, and I was not able to cut-and-paste
the pricing information.

Yes Ma'am, Ms Pink,
I just didn't want that aspect to get completely overseen, and
certainly was not questioning the quality of your answer.
You can be sure that I wouldn't have posted unless Uzzz has shown
complete satisfaction.
