Starting a Filming Company what kind of Network or Computer System should we use?

We currently are using a lot of logging and video editing software
that take up huge amounts of space.

We currently are using Mac Pro's (5 G4 and 2 G5 quads) 7 diffrent Macbook pro's

We currently are having issues with 12 300gb external hardrives
walking them down the hall ... hard drives running out of space,
getting unplugged, not backed up.

We are currently looking at creating a Xserver with Xserver Raid. but
need to know if there are other solutions available and what other
companies use to create films.
