My wifes grandfather had a sketch of himself done in Cafe Lausanne in Sept 10th 1906. Thats all I have -- Is somewhere in Europe, maybeParis but not sure. Where is it most likely to have been. | |

I suppose that it could be in Lausanne itself ... Are there any other clues: Maybe a Swiss Cheese or a Cuckoo Clock? |

I have found Café Lausanne from Turku, Finland, to Caracas, not that these were there 100 years ago. In Lausanne, there is a Grand Café and a Café Lausanne Signal sarl, and a Café Lausanne in nearby Montreaux - and probably elsewhere. I rather suspect that the caption to that photo is more general, a nameless café in Lausanne. Could that also be the case with the sketch? There is an Hotel Lausanne in Paris, not now with a café. Back then, it was quite common to find hotels, restaurants and cafés that catered the trade of other regions in Europe with their names, so there could have been a Café Lausanne in several places where it no longer exists. |
