Ok, this should be a cinch for anyone with a basic knowledge of home
music production.

I have a fairly weak dell (1mb RAM/celeron 2.93) running XP home edition.
Im using a USB MT4 2-in-4-out interface that hooks up to a nord micro
synth. Initially I just bought midi leads and connected the PC in/out
of the synth to In 1 and Out 1 on the MT4 interface. I have since
connected the midi in/out ports on the synth to In 2 and Out 2 on the
MT4 interface though im not even sure of my reasoning for doing this.
The cabling is fine because the editor for the nord recognises the
synth ok upon connecting.
I loaded a patch into the synth, (and heres where i show how little I know) and
figured I might be able to hear it playing by plugging my headphones
into the headphone jack on the synth. Alas, no joy. Being pretty sure
i have grossly oversimplified things, I have acquried Cubase sx 2 as I
know something has to hold the midi data or something like that before
it is sent to the synth to be played. How do i communicate between the
synths editor and the
sequencer. I know how to open a new project, create a midi track and
assign it to the requisite midi port but thats all. One thing with the
Nord is that In 1 and Out 1 on the midi interface have be used solely
for the editor, so i know that i have to create a new track in cubase
on MT4 In 2 and Out 2( as explained this is where i connected midi
in/out of the synth to these
ports on the interface).

So basically my understanding of the whole thing is very poor...

how do I hear a patch being played by the synth, or..

how do I "play" a patch on the synth so as it is captured in the sequencer and
then sent back to actually play on the synth so i can hear it

am i right in saying that PC In/out on the Nord is for communicating with the
nord's editor, and the midi In/Out on the Nord is for communicating with the
sequencer?

Thanks in advance.
