Even when I set the recording control in XP to 'Mono Mix' and unmute the mic, I
still cannot get my screen recorder software to record both sides of
a conversation in Skype, MSN msgr, etc. On my laptop, I can,
but the laptop fan is too noisy so the recording is unusable. I've
tried every imaginable setting in Volume control and recording control
and the audio settings in the Screen recording software (Screen
Recorder, Snag-it, BSR)--doesn't make any different, just the mic
input gets recorded. Help!

Using the mic to record just doesn't seem right. It seems that you
want to record your conversations on a professional level. Try finding
a hardware solution, like some kind of box that will take the sound
card output and the mic input, record the data and then send it on its
way.

Hi,
Forget all extra hardware issues...just install this
software...mark my words it will be your buddy for life...

Total Recorder records streaming audio, mic and line-in input, and
performs audio file conversions. Total Recorder may be used to record
LPs, cassettes or any stereo output onto your PC. Total Recorder also
allows you to record CDs or DVDs.
 Here's the trial version
http://www.highcriteria.com/download/tr60se.exe

..will work fine if u r recording small clips less than 60 seconds..

Cheers!!!!
