in a continuing effort to increase my procrastination skills, i looked
thru the referenced question from 2002. i think the very last comment
on that thread is correct. if you go to www.lex.net (theoretically
created by the puzzle?s author, according to the original questioner,
and last updated in 2003), something just smells fishy. all
references to ?charity? are very fuzzy, the web site is constantly
going back and forth about whether *all* money goes to charity or
whether the money is being paid out to the correct answer, and most
important, no updates after 2003. i?m pretty sure it was a hoax.

maybe someone should get scriptor working on whether or not the
website registration stuff is bogus or not. i would post such a
question myself, but since i seem to spend all time looking at 4 year
old puzzles instead of working, i have no money?

Barnaca,
I like your opening line - unfortunately, mine are already perfected ...

I think you may be right, either a hoax or the puzzle was cancelled
towards the end, when with only a few state left, people could
register multiple answers, one of which would have to be correct.

Of general interest: I noticed you typed "thru", reminding me that I
thought I hadn't seen it on G-A. But, of course, I have, just
overseen it. But still, considering internet spelling, it is quite
rare: found in only 1081 questions, vs. 41643 with "through".

Cheers, Myoarin

Sorry! And I wasn't criticizing your use of "thru".

sorry to hijack your question with idle chitchat, bowler, but...

no sorry necessary, myoarin.

"thru" is my little attempt to improve the english language one word
at a time. as soon as i've convinced all english speakers that this
is the correct spelling, i'll move on to "tho", eventually working my
way up to the holy grail: eliminating capitalization.

ok, ok, back to work.

What's going on here? I ask an impossible question that I don't
expect to get answered and I get a grammar discussion. I hope your
discussion is "thru".

Anyway, I did discover that the original asker of the question was a
summer intern at microsoft and more than likely is not there any more.
So the hope of getting an answer is slim. I was hoping to renew
interest in finding an anwer but of course for $2.00 , that ain't
happinin'.

So feel free to continue to "chit chat" on the question.
