Dear jack1425,

After a very long and extensive research, I managed to find Daniel A.
Ferguson in U.S. Census documents.
After many fruitless approaches, I performed a Google search with the
following parameters:

Search terms: Ogdensburg ferguson cuthbert
://www.google.de/search?hl=de&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&newwindow=1&q=Ogdensburg+ferguson+cuthbert&btnG=Google-Suche&meta=

This led me to the follwing web document:

History of Hammond [St. Lawrence Co., NY], by Alexander Allen
http://outer-chaos.net/hammond.txt

It contains, among other things, this information:

"Rev. Daniel A. Ferguson, D.D., the present pastor, was
installed June 16th, 1875, and his thirtieth anniversay has just
been celebrated by the church. (...) Mr. Ferguson is Stated
Clerk of the Presbytery of St. Lawrence, and Permanent Clerk of
the Synod of New York, both responsibile positions which require
a mailing list of correspondents of from six to seven hundred
letters per year besides printed circulars. He has not been
absent a single Sabbath on account of illness in all those thirty
years and but few on vacation except in 1895 he took an extended
trip to the British Isles."

That added much more to what I knew so far! And what is more, I now
had a trace of Daniel A. Ferguson's birth date - it must have been
some time around 1845.
Knowing this, I took the next step. I used the extremely extensive
genealogical database, provided for free use by the Church of Jesus
Christ:

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

I used the following search parameters:

First Name - Daniel
Last Name -Ferguson
Event: Birth/Christening
Year Range + or - 2 years
Year: 1845

Then I performed a search and received a rather short list of persons
matching these parameters. And among them was this entry:

Dan[ie]l. FERGUSON
Birth Year <1847>
    Birthplace NY
    Age 33
    Occupation Presbyterian Clergyman
    Marital Status M <Married>
    Race W <White>
    Head of Household Danl. FERGUSON
    Relation Self
    Father's Birthplace SCOT
    Mother's Birthplace SCOT
Source Information:
Census Place Hammond, St. Lawrence, New York
    Family History Library Film 1254925
    NA Film Number T9-0925
    Page Number 267A

A Presbyterian pastor named Daniel Ferguson, resident in Hammond, NY
in 1880 - this is without any doubt the Daniel A. Ferguson you are
looking for. And that is not all: We now know he ws born in the State
of New York in 1847, he was married in 1880 and his parents immigrated
from Scotland before he was born.

Now I undertook a next step: I used the free WorldConnect Project
ancestry database at Rootsweb.com:

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/

My refined search parameters were:

Surname - Ferguson
Given Name - Daniel
Birth Year - 1847, exact

And I was successful! I received a single result, which showed the
following data:

Name: FERGUSON, Daniel
Birth/Christening: 4 Jul 1847
Father: Neil FERGUSON
Mother: Jean BURNS

Further research on the parents revealed that Neil Ferguson was born
26 Dec 1816, and Jean Burns 28 Feb 1823, both in Scotland. They
married 6 Jun 1841 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Knowing this, I performed a search for the parents' names at
www.familysearch.org and had some luck again:

Neil Ferguson
Male
Birth: About 1816 - Of, Barony, Lanark, Scotland
Spouse: Jean Burnes
Birth: About 1820 - Of, Barony, Lanark, Scotland
Banns: 06 JUN 1841 - Barony, Lanark, Scotland

The spouse's name is written slightly different, but that was not
uncommon in those times. It is doubtless the father of Daniel
Archibald Ferguson!

And there is a last fact I found out:
In the Familysearch.org results, there is an additional link for
obtaining Census Data on a person's household, if recorded. In Daniel
Ferguson's case, there are records. In 1880, he was married to the
following woman, but had no children with her:

Lucinda FERGUSON
Birth Year <1855>
    Birthplace NY
    Age 25
    Occupation Keeps House
    Marital Status M <Married>
    Race W <White>
    Head of Household Danl. FERGUSON
    Relation Wife
    Father's Birthplace NY
    Mother's Birthplace NY
 Source Information:
Census Place Hammond, St. Lawrence, New York
    Family History Library Film 1254925
    NA Film Number T9-0925
    Page Number 267A

So it seems that he lost his wife while he was in Hammond, NY, some
time after the 1880 Census. Since he was a clergyman, I can hardly
imagine he got divorced, which leads to the conclusion that Lucinda
Ferguson died in that time. He obviously got married again then, with
Mary Cuthbert.

This is, alas, the best I could find. But now that you know these data
and the microfilm numbers for the 1880 Census, further search might
prove easier.

I hope I was able to help you.
Best regards,
Scriptor

Dear jack1425,

Please ignore the part about Daniel A. Fergusons parents Neil Ferguson
and Jean Burns - I just read milamba's comment and recognized I fell
victim to some mistake, unfortunately.

However, all other data concerning Daniel A. Fergusons appointment as
miniser in Hammond, NY, his birthdate, first wife, etc., is definitely
correct.

I beg your pardon for my mistake and hope the main data will fulfill
your needs.

Scriptor

Dear jack1425,

My mistake concerning the parents of Daniel A. Ferguson really made me
feel ashamed, so I continued my search in the Familysearch.org
database. I was, to my mispleasure, not able to find out about
Archibald Ferguson and Nancy A. Rogers. But as a compensation, I
located data on Nancy Cuthbert, using what milamba mentioned in her
comment. This is what I got as result:

NANCY E. CUTHBERT
Birth: Hammond, St Lawrence, New York
Father: WM. CUTHBERT
Mother: MARGERET CUNNINGHAM
Marriages:
  Spouse: DANNIEL A. FERGUSON Family
Marriage: 24 JAN 1883 - Hammond, St Lawrence, New York
  Husband Age at Marriage: 33
  Wife Age at Marriage: 22

Please note the way "Daniel" is miswritten - this might prove
important in case you do additional research in future.

Using the "Family" link, I came to this data:

Husband
 DANNIEL A. FERGUSON

Birth: Oswegatchie, St Lawrence, New York

Wife
 NANCY E. CUTHBERT

Birth: Hammond, St Lawrence, New York

Children: None

Source Information:
Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.:
Type:
 M526121 1847 - 1849 1311927 Film NONE
 M526121 1881 - 1885 1311927 Film NONE
 Sheet: 00

Now I was, at least, able to give you information on where Daniel A.
Ferguson was born: Oswegatchie, St. Lawrence County, New York. And
since the data refers to the years before 1885, it is now a fact that
they did not have children (yet) by then.

I hope this helps you in your research.

Would have liked more; family member (brothers, sisters), time in
Ogdensburg, death, where educated (if southwestern NY), if brother or
relative around Steuben county about 1895!!, who his parents
were(rootss, social employment) and so on. It is a difficult area
seemingly so scriptor did well and went back on ares for more
attention.

Unfortunately I can't give you a full answer to your questions at this
time, however, I do have this information on Daniel Ferguson that may
be of help.

He was born about 1850 (place unknown) to parents Archibald Ferguson
and Nancy A. Rogers. He married Nancy E. Cuthburt on 24 Jan 1883 in
Hammond, St Lawrence, New York. He was 33 at the time he married and
his wife was 22.

Source: International Genealogical Index 2002; Batch No. M526121;
Source Call No. 1311927.

There is no sign of him in the 1920 US Census, so I would presume he
had died by this time. You should be able to obtain a copy of his
marriage certificate from the New York State Vital Records
genealogical department. This can be done online at:
http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/vr/forms/genealogy.htm

Hope this is of some help
