I have a business selling industrial tools and supplies to truck,
motorcycle, marine, auto, and aircraft repair shops. We have been in
business for ten years
and have about six long term reps. We have a total of 12 of our thirty
available desk full. (so we have space for 18 more sales people) It is
not for everyone and we tend to go through a couple of people a week
or more.

I am looking for ten great suggestions on finding new sales reps for the phones.
Your suggestion should be very effectice (hopefully from actual experiance) and
inexpensive. Here are a few things we've tried with very little return.

1. Newspapers (we spend $600 per week to get maybe five applicants)
2. Monster.com and other sites (almost nothing)
3. Passing out flyers at colleges. (nothing)
4. Passing out flyers while holding a sign on a busy street corner.
5. Temp agencies (nothing)
6. Penny Saver and other throw away type papers (almost nothing)
7. Offering a $100.00 referral to current employess (nothing)
8. Radio (not much and too costly)
9. Recovery homes and half way houses (very little)
10. Umemployment office (poor sales people)
11. Large sign in front of our business almost nothing.
12. Sending people out into the community passing out flyers and cards.
13. Placing flyers on community boards. (including AA type meetings)
14. Have contacted churches.

So you can see we've tried a few things. We have a very nice office
and pay the highest wages in town. We also offer 401k and pay full
med.

Please feel free to be creative and think outside the box.

As a final note: The best person would be one with a strong voice and
someone with street smarts. The reps we have make at least $1200 per
week working 32 1/2 hours per week.

Thank you for your ideas.

crystal41-ga,

Two questions, if I may:

--Does your business have a website, and if not, why not?

--Have you advertised in trade magazines like AutoInc?: http://www.autoinc.org/
And again, if not, why not?

Thanks,

pafalafa-ga
