What does the surname "Coapstick" mean?

I don't know.  There are also the surnames Coapstaffe, Coapestaffe and
Coopstick, which might be related.  If they are, they would suggest an
English origin.
But if they are not, ...?  I found nothing except sites with
references to individuals and lists of surnames that provided no
information.

My first thought was a misspelling of some Eastern European name
