I understand that there are approximately 65,000 dental clinics in
Japan. Can someone tell me the number of dental clinics in Japan
broken down by size (for example, by the number of dentists per
practice, number of patients seen, or number of procedures performed)?

Hello again jess05,

Perhaps the information provided by the Japanese Dental Association
regarding the number of private practitioners and employed dentists
can be used to make a estimate by the number of dentists per practice?

 DENTAL HEALTH CARE
1) Dental Manpower
(as of 2000)

Number of dentists ...................................90,857(including
non-JDA Members)

Private practitioners 60,059 (62.9%)

Employed dentists 20,018 (24.5%)

Dentists in dental schools,

public research institutions 9,591 (11.2%)

Others 1,189 ( 1.3%)

http://www.jda.or.jp/en/index.html

If there are 65,000 dental clinics 60,059 Private practitioners and 20,018
employed dentists, it would appear that the majority of dental
clinics are one dentist businesses.

What do you think?

Hi bobbie7,

I need to have an estimate of the number of dental clinics that have
for example, more than 5 dentists working at the practice. I think
based on your excellent research that this is a small number, but
don't have any way to make a good guess. Anything that estimates the
number of "large" practices will be helpful.

Hi Jess05!

Thanks for the clarification. I'll see what else I can find out.

Best wishes,
