Legal advice is tricky and not comething we're allowed to get involved
with. At your town meeting I recommend you make a motion that the
residents form a committe of several intelligent people to represent
the interested parties. Then I suggest that you propose that this
committe consult an attroney for advice. They should write down
everyone's questions and submit them to the attorney for answers. On
getting this information the committee will return to the group at a
follow-up town meeting to report the answers. If you follow my
suggestion you may find that you are required you to collectively
"hire" an attorney - and perhaps even pass the hat to acquire the
funds necessary to pay for such a consultation, if in fact there is a
fee.
Alternatively, you might select a spokesperson to speak for you, who
can then consult with the Attorney General. You may also get positive
results by having your entire group place numerous personal telephone
calls to the offices of your State Representative, State Senator,
County Judge, Sheriff, etc. Print out their telephone numbers and have
them copied and ready for distribution on the night of the meeting and
hand out the numbers and names of the persons who should be called.
Then I would bombard them with calls for the next week or so until
someone gave this urgent situation the attention is deserves.
Finally, let me say this from the standpoint of someone who has been
in law enforcement for many years:
(1) Convicted sex offenders are not typically permitted to live in
neighborhoods where children reside. If he is SOMETHING IS WRONG.
(2) When a convicted sex offender moves into an area most states have
laws that require the authorities to notify residents. If they didn't
SOMETHING IS WRONG.
(3) Convicted sex offenders who re-offend or violate their parole are
not typically released pending an official violation. If he was,
SOMETHING IS WRONG.
These are the points I would have an attorney clarify for me. If it
turns out that someone dropped the ball with regard to any one (or
more) of these things I would hire that attorney, take my case to the
media and (aside from the obvious thing that this creep be reigned in)
I would demand from my Representative, Senator or Attorney General
that someone lose their job over this or at the next election you will
elect someone else to fill his or her office who will. You may have to
get ugly about it...but I'm confident you will be forgiven by the
parents you spare and the children you might save.
Just my free thoughts...
Good luck.
