I am trying to locate a forensic psychiatrist who would be willing to
perform a mental health evaluation on me for the purpose of
re-applying for a Massachusetts license to posess firearms that was
revoked because I voluntarily sought treatment in a mental health
facility in 2001.  According to Massachusetts law in order to be
considered for reinstatement a sworn affidavit must be obtained from a
physician stating an individual has no disqualifying mental health
issues.  I would be willing to travel anywhere in New England.

Request for Answer Clarification by easmam-ga on 09 Sep 2006 16:56 PDT Thanks for your research, but what I was looking for is someone who would agree to the evaluation. I had contacted a number of forensic psychiatry organizations and they would not perform the evaluation. I have since been contacted by a doctor who is willing to do the exam so I don't think you can do anything further.

By providing such a wide variety of forensic psychiatrists-- private practice, university, hospitals and researchers-- I thought that you would be able to find someone to help you. I'm glad that you found someone who could do the examination, anyway. All of these psychiatrists advertised their willingness to perform evaluations for many different needs, so I saw no reason why they would not agree to evaluate you. Even with the affidavit it is far from certain I will get my permit back but I thought I'd give it a shot (no pun intended). I don't know how this service works but I would like to pay you something for your efforts. Can you tell me how I might do that or should I contact Google?

I am requesting a refund because I was looking for a forensic
psychiatrist who would be willing to perform an exam so I could obtain
a firearms permit.  Before posting the question I had no problem
locating forensic psychiatrists, they just wanted nothing to do with
firearms.  I offered so much for the answer because I was hoping for
an answer from a psychiatrist himself or an individual who had the
same problem as I but found a doctor willing to do the exam.  Soon
after posting the question I found someone through my personal
physician.

My question was not as clear as it should have been.  While I'm sure
the researcher would have followed up I had already found what I was
looking for from another source.  This was no fault of the researcher
however.
