I am in the process of developing a web site that will need to allow
users to browse through lists of music, books, movies and (hopefully)
video games. What I'm looking for is a database or web service that
houses collections for the above mentioned media types,
including titles, descriptions, year, publisher, synopsis, etc. and
hopefully thumbnails. Basically the type of things you would see when
browsing Amazon.com or something similar. I need to know any specific
usage restrictions, fees or licensing costs, and any other relevant details.

If the answer is a web service, I'd also like to know requirements and
how to implement. Nothing too technically detailed, just a high level
overview to get me pointed in the right direction.

I've seen many other websites that have this type of data, but have
been vastly unsucsessful in determining how to get it for my own use.

You use the dmoz.org directory system in your website and you can get
the thumbnail images from thumbshots also. There lot of scripts that
allows to add dmoz content to your website.
