I have been looking for a new coffee table for my living room/dining
room. I want it to be glass topped, because I like that airy feeling.
I also want it to have a lower tier, so that we can stack some
magazines on that shelf as well. This bottom shelf needs to be glass
too.

Style: Classic is good. Not too contemporary, not too frou frou.
The frame can be ither wood or metal. But I want to make sure that
the glass sits securely within the frame, rather than being perched on
top like some tables I have seen.

I would like the dimensions to be approximately 4 feet x 4 1/2 feet,
give or take a foot in either dimension. (Round or oval is OK too.)
To give you a sense of the sort of thing I hope to find, I am
attaching links to some nice-looking but too-small tables I have seen
on-line, as well as the perfect-sized one that got away (because at
the last minute I decided the eagle talon feet weren't my thing, so
didn't bid) on eBay.

One more thing: I think once you get to a table the size of the one I
am pining for, it either has to be very sturdily built, or (and) it
needs to have x-type construction, with cross-piece girders going
across the bottom.

I'd appreciate any suggestions as to where to look. I would like to
spend as little as possible, and in fact have been trolling craigslist
and eBay to this end. I guess my upper limit is about $1,000. But
feel free to make me aware of something great that is more expensive,
or to let me know that in general I can't get what I want without
spending more. If it matters, I am in the Los Angeles area.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
