Bryan,

I have found no news story regarding the incident that mentions Google
Answers. It appears that the defendant used Google (the search engine)
to do research in advance of committing his crime.

"A computer expert told jurors that six months before, Barber used
Google to search for 'trauma cases gunshot right chest.' One of the
wounds he suffered was just below his right nipple, and prosecutors
said he was using the Internet to research how to survive."

The "Dateline" show that stanmartin1952 saw says that the defendant
"asked Google a question," but this means that he typed some search
terms into the search engine, not that he posted a question on Google
Answers.

"On Valentine?s Day 2002, six months before the murder, Justin Barber
asked Google a question.

Computer expert: It was a Google search in which the key words
'trauma' 'cases' 'gunshot' 'right' and 'chest' were the searches that
were used.

The prosecution reminded the jurors about the precise location of one
of Justin?s wounds?and told them it couldn?t be a coincidence.

Prosecution: What are the odds of somebody researching, 'gunshot wound
to the right chest', getting a gunshot wound to the right chest six
months later? Those odds just don?t exist."

Bryan,

Thanks for accepting my research as your answer (and Stan's answer)!

As I said above, I've found no mention of Google Answers in connection
with the news story in question. It appears that the defendant used
Google (the search engine) to do research in advance of committing his
crime.

"A computer expert told jurors that six months before, Barber used
Google to search for 'trauma cases gunshot right chest.' One of the
wounds he suffered was just below his right nipple, and prosecutors

Off the subject of Google-loving gunmen, you have asked about Cyndi
Yawper, of whom I spoke long ago, when she was a little bitty
kittencat. Cyndi is delightfully playful (if a bit wacky), and has
grown into a large, handsome critter with gorgeous tortoiseshell
coloring and huge yellow eyes. Here is a photo taken in the kitchen
today:

http://www.mortalwombat.com/Special/Pets/Cyndi_in_kitchen.jpg

She was named for her piercing voice, and that remains unchanged. This
is a voice that could wake the dead. If any of my neighbors ever need
to be resuscitated, I have no doubt that the deed could be achieved by
holding Cyndi up to their ear and pulling her tail to generate a loud
meyowl.

Despite the tortoiseshell coloring, we doubt that there is an actual
tortoise in there. The speed with which this high-energy cat dashes
around the house is more reminiscent of the hare than of the tortoise.
But Cyndi always seems to win the race.

Best always,
Pink

Very Many Thanks, Pink ...

And also for the unexpected photo of Miss Yawper!

I do hope that Stanmartin sees your answer, and likes it!

All the Very Best

Here is Stanmartin's comment to that question:

"Hi Pinkfreud,
In the last couple of days, I saw a true crime show on tv, where the
murderer asked Google Answers about getting shot in the right chest,
before shooting his wife and putting four shots in himself, one in the
right chest. This happened a couple of years ago, but, since you have
a super memory, I wonder if you might remember the question."

I wonder if Stanmartin was asking about one of these questions:

Hi Pinkfreud,
You did an excellent job. I used to think that I was a good searcher,
until I came across Google Answers.
Justin Barber thought he'd be found innocent even though:
There was $2M insurance on his wife.
He'd recently had 4 affairs.
There were incriminating searches on his hard disk.
