Hi,
I am an employee at an emerging company and we don't really have an IT
staff but it seems like I have been given the task to set this all up
since I'm the "computer" guy. We just purchased a new server with
Windows 2003 Server Small Business Edition. We just had a T1 line
installed from AT&T. We now want to host our own Microsoft Exchange
server. I need a really good detailed list of how to configure and
setup Microsoft Exchange and all other required steps. We currently
have our e-mail stored on a hosted pop3 server. I do know that we need
an mx-mail dns entry added but that is pretty much it. I am definitely
willing to tip very well if you are able to answer all parts of this
entire question. Thank you very much. |

Hi phil2k,
Assuming the Windows Server 2003 is already installed on your server,
here is an easy step-by-step tutorial with graphics on installing and
setting up the email server.

Configuring the MX Record (in order to make your server be able to
talk to other servers) is another matter -

Hi Hummer,
Thank you for that information. It is quite helpful. Now, I have a
question. I will need to set this up this coming weekend, 15th-18th.
Are you very familiarized with Microsoft Exchange Server so that if
there are any glitches (which there always are when it comes to
setting up servers) you will be able to answer any relevant questions
instead of just searching for solutions?

Also, just to let you know I need to setup Microsoft Exchange 2003
with Microsoft Outlook 2003 not Outlook Express. I will though however
require both the simultaneous ability of being able to connect using
Microsoft Exchange protocols AND also pop3 access.

Hi phil2k,
Unfortunately, no, I'm sure I'm not the person you are hoping to hook
up with. Your GA question is still open to all so hopefully someone
else will step up to the plate. If not, I'll try to help you out the
best I can if needed.
Good luck again,

Hi phil2k,
Just thinking of you and decided to have another look. The suggestion
in the following link to practice on a test machine is a good one.
Introduction to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Installation
"It is more difficult to install Exchange 2003 than any other
Microsoft product. A list, as in shopping list, will not be good
enough; if you want to win the battle to install Exchange 2003, what
you need is a plan, as in a general plotting a military campaign."

a) Setup /forestprep Exchange 2003 - setup /domainprep and /forestprep
b) Setup /domainprep
c) Finally plain: setup"
