Hi all,

I am looking for the following two types of background check
companies: (1) Free online service as a baseline so I have do it
myself to have some bottomline information; (2) Comprehensive and paid
service with good quality.

I want to do a background check on myself and I hope the background
check is as comprehensive as possible and includes but not limit to
the following: credit history, education history, employment history,
creminal records, court and civil claims, international
experiences(such as where did I reside in at a certain period of time,
what did I do during those times...), etc.

The goal is to make sure my background is clear of any problem because
I am going to land on the job market very soon and my target
profession is banking.

In the past the following things triggered my concerns:

a) When I applied for a checking account, one major bank rejected my
application; I have delayed payments of my credit card once or twice
due to forgetfulness and I don't know if that will affect my job
application in the banking industry.

b) The university library from where I graduated charged me a fine and
sent a small-claim company to seek after the charge; later the library
staff found out their mistake and dismissed my case and then they
refund the money back to me. They stated that they've sent a letter to
the small-claim company to give me back my clear status but I am not
sure and I don't know how to make sure everything is right.

c) I have had only one traffic violation in my many years of driving
experience... but that one involved a court summon. I found a local
lawyer to help me and after chatting with some other people over the
phone for 10 minutes, he told me that my case was dismissed and no
points will be on my records. (The total consulting fee was charged to
be about 40 minutes). Till today I am still wondering what type of
violation was it but I have never been able to recall any details
about the case. I've moved a few years ago, so I even forgot the name
of the lawyer who helped me.

d) I am a nerd and a mathematician so I've never cared about details.
I've heard that I should have precise dates about graduation, and
employment on my job application. These are exactly something I
haven't remembered precisely. I really need a background checking
company to make sure everything is precise in my application.

In summary, I need (1) the best free background check service and (2)
the best paid comprehensive employee background screening which is as
deep and comprehensive as possible as the service used by those big
banks and large corporations. Also, preferrably they can also research
on international experiences... What are those background check
companies used by the banks? (3) Will the above incidents affect my
job application?

I've done a lot of homework searching on the Internet myself. I've
checked with HireRight.com, but they simply turned me down, saying
that they don't service individual customer who needs a check on
himself. Btw, is there a reliable ranking/rating/review of the
background check service since there are so many such companies
around...
