How do I recover lost OUTLOOK contacts and calendar?
When trying to set up an outlook POP for GMail I removed the 'exchange
server' that I thought was associated with a former employer. This
apparently deleted my off-line contacts and my calendar. I cannot
restore them. Would contacts and calendar live in PST or OST files? I
have found a couple of big pst files but I can't seem to link them
into outlook. It might be necessary to have some interaction on the
phone in order to maximize effeiciency rather than a series of
e-mails/

When using an exchanger server you will have a local .ost file stored at:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook
Usually named "outlook.ost".

If you have deleted the profile it may have removed this file. First
look in the location listed above and let me know if you find it.
Also search your hard drive for any other .ost files.

Look at the modified dates of the .pst files that you have. If they
were modified recently (like the day you deleted the profile) then
these should be what you are looking for.

To view them open up outlook and create a new profile. Just setup
what ever email account you are currently using. After you have
outlook open and setup with your current email follow the steps below
to add your personal folders.

Select ?Options? in the ?Tools? menu at the top of the Outlook screen.
Click the tab titled ?Mail Setup? and then the ?Data Files? button.
Click the ?Add? button on the ?Outlook Data Files? screen.
?Office Outlook Personal Folder File (.pst)? should be highlighted,
just click ?OK?.
Browse to the location of the .pst files and select one of them. You
have to go through these last few steps for each .pst file.

What you should end up with is a "Mailbox" at the top of your folders
list in Outlook and one or more "Personal Folders" farther down the
folders list. These personal folder may contain your mail and
calendar items.

Please let me know what you can find with this information. I will be
glad to assist you further.

Thanks!

I do know locations of OST and PST files. However, I can't link them
into outlook. When I follow your procedure(which I had previously done
on my own) Outlook simple sets up a new 'folder tree' whith empty
folders. BTW Outlook only shows me the .pst file. how do I link to the
.ost fiel?
