Hi, I would like to know if family members are allowed to be present during childbirth. This is with regards to Indian laws. My wife would like me and her mom to be present inside the OT during the childbirth, the doctors are refusing that, and we wanted to know if this is legal ? I have read it someplace (cant seem to find it) that the Indian Law does allow family members to be present during the childbirth. WHAT IS THE IPC SECTION FOR THIS ? I know that there is a law with regards to this, a resolution passed in the Indian Penal Code section, does anyone know what it is ? so we can take it up with the doctors and make them allow us to be present during the childbirth. |

I don't know about India, but in the U.S. for several decades, it has been unusual for the father to NOT be present at the childbirth. Previously, he would pace in the waiting room while smoking (at least that's what Hollywood has taught me). |

Even if you legally force admitance to the OT, The doctors and/or other staff may find unprovable ways to punish you. I suggest you honor the desires of the OT or find a different OT that will willingly let 2 extra persons in to observe and assist. Neil |
