How do you make gum? I am looking for a free way -- not one of those kits. (This is for an elementary class project and free is better since there is no real budget.) Thanks.

Dear wifewantstoknow-ga; Thank you for allowing me to answer your interesting question. Here are a number of simple gum ?recipes? that should prove useful to you in your project. I thought this first one was the most impressive and the simplest version. It also provides some step-by-step photos: First you will need the following basic ingredients (Note: to make these ingredients from scratch would be extremely cost prohibitive): Gum Base Pellets Mixing Tool Waxed Paper Mixing Container Corn Syrup Powdered Sugar Bubble Gum Flavor The following process is a VERY simple 3-step method defined on this page (which I cannot recreate here due to copyright issues) Source: Steve Spangler Science Courtesy: KFVS CHANNEL 12 http://www.kfvs12.com/Global/story.asp?S=2906306 Here are some other similar methods: MAKE YOUR OWN BUBBLE GUM: KID FRIENDLY RECIPES http://mixes.cdkitchen.com/recipes/recs/30/Make-Your-Own-Bubble-Gum74922.shtml HOW TO MAKE BUBBLE GUM http://www.leeners.com/gumrecipe.html (If that link doesn?t open for you try this cached version of the page) http://184.108.40.206/search?q=cache:0VCJb-NY7bsJ:www.leeners.com/gumrecipe.html+bubble+gum+recipe&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1 You may also find this Google Answer helpful: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=97349 I realize you said that you did not want any kits. However, if you do the math (pun intended) you will quickly find that the ingredients listed above may actually cost more than the kit does. Unless of course you already have these materials on hand, you may choose to buy a kit. There are some very affordable bubble gum kits available so you can make the gum from scratch using the materials provided: http://candyaddict.com/blog/2005/12/21/make-your-own-bubble-gum/ http://www.physlink.com/estore/cart/BubbleGumKit.cfm http://www.candyfavorites.com/easyordering/bubblegumdispensers/make-your-own-chewing-gum-gift-kit.asp http://www.davescooltoys.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=98137&Category_Code=Food I hope you find that my answer exceeds your expectations. If you have any questions about my research please post a clarification request prior to rating the answer. Otherwise I welcome your rating and your final comments and I look forward to working with you again in the near future. Thank you for bringing your question to us. Best regards; Tutuzdad-ga ?
