How do you make gum? I am looking for a free way -- not one of those
kits. (This is for an elementary class project and free is better
since there is no real budget.)

Thanks.

Dear wifewantstoknow-ga;

Thank you for allowing me to answer your interesting question.

Here are a number of simple gum ?recipes? that should prove useful to
you in your project. I thought this first one was the most impressive
and the simplest version. It also provides some step-by-step photos:

First you will need the following basic ingredients (Note: to make
these ingredients from scratch would be extremely cost prohibitive):

Gum Base Pellets
Mixing Tool
Waxed Paper
Mixing Container
Corn Syrup
Powdered Sugar
Bubble Gum Flavor

The following process is a VERY simple 3-step method defined on this
page (which I cannot recreate here due to copyright issues)

I realize you said that you did not want any kits. However, if you do
the math (pun intended) you will quickly find that the ingredients
listed above may actually cost more than the kit does. Unless of
course you already have these materials on hand, you may choose to buy
a kit. There are some very affordable bubble gum kits available so you
can make the gum from scratch using the materials provided:
