Question ID: 765046
Hi,

I'm evaluating these two companies for the following, and don't tie
yourself down too much to what I'm suggesting as my guessing of how to
rank them, areas of interest to help me size them up:

Companies: www.analog.com and www.broadcom.com

1. Their major achievements and what seems to sets them appart of the others.
2. Rank in their industry.
3. Major competitors.
4. Top five companies in their area by market size/revenue/,etc..
5. Key people at these companies.
6. Revenues and profits if available.
7. Are they considered to have impact trends and standards in their field?

What you can cover or have more of what I didn't ask for which may
spill into the same goal, I'd like to see. :-)

Thank you.

Hello, tinkywinkey-ga!

Some of the best sites to turn for company overviews, financials,
press coverage and analyst data are CNN Money, Yahoo Finance and
Morningstar. I have culled out some significant links below but take
your time studying all the sites in depth and read the press coverage
available. I think you will find more than enough information about
both Broadcom and Analog Devices.

From "Chipmakers Look For Loyalty," by Chris Kraeuter, 08.31.06
http://www.forbes.com/technology/2006/08/30/semiconductors-computers-customers_cx_ck_0831chips.html

"Product innovation has long been seen as the key to winning in the
semiconductor industry. But a new survey, out Wednesday, says that
chipmakers should also be focused on something beyond cramming
circuits into silicon: customer loyalty. Only 29% of semiconductor
buyers consider themselves loyal customers, according to Walker
Information, a research and consultancy based in Indianapolis that
evaluated 53 chip companies based on 1,500 responses from a mix of
hardware and software engineers, executives and product managers.
That's a lower loyalty rate than other industries that Walker has
evaluated, including communications services (39%) and information
technology (47%). Further, the satisfaction rating by chip buyers,
65%, lags Walker's overall average of 72%."

"The eight chip companies ranking highest in customer loyalty were
Avago Technologies, formerly a part of Agilent Technologies that was
taken private last year; Analog Devices, Freescale Semiconductor,
Linear Technology, Microchip Technology, Sony, Texas Instruments, and
Xilinx."
