I am trying to install Vista RC1 on my Thinkpad T42 which had 9GB HD
free and 1GB of ram with a 64MB ATI RADEON. Am doing an upgrade
install from within XP PRO. It copies the files, then gathers them.
During the "expanding files" at 21% complete it fails with the error
"Could not install a required driver" and aborts. I have re-tried
several times to no avail. I tried upgrading an old Dell laptop which
was also running XP Pro and the upgrade went on without a hitch so it
seems the DVD is not corrupted. Does anyone know how to get by this?

It is a beta release of the software, chances are the driver that is
bundled with the DVD is not compatible with your hardware.

You have a few options, wait for the full release, report the error to
MS and state which driver fails, make your own install image and
install your own driver that is correct for the system you are
installing.
