I have a Kodak ColorEase PS Printer. After I turn it on it displays
INIT ERROR. Kodak all but denies the existence of this device. What is
wrong with the printer? Where can I get a maintenance/repair manual
for this printer?

Hi holmesware,

Here is the user's manual for this printer:

"User's Guide: Part No. 988580: Kodak ColorEase PS Printer"
Kodak
ftp://ftp.kodak.com/web/service/manuals/printers/988580.pdf

Pages 1-25 and 4-8 (pages 33 and 56 of the PDF file) mention "INIT
ERROR." These pages suggest turning on and off the printer, and if
that doesn't work, calling for service.

Another Kodak printer has the same advice for "INIT ERROR."

"User's Guide: Part No. 3H0594: Kodak Professional 8657 Printer" (January 1998)
http://download.kodak.com/professional/manuals/8657/3h0594.pdf#search=%22init%20error%22

There is more extensive advice concerning "INIT ERROR" in these
support documents for the Kodak Digital Science 8650 PS Color Printer:

"Error Messages (Kodak Digital Science 8650 Color Printer | Kodak
Digital Science 8650 PS Color Printer | Kodak Professional 8650R
Thermal Printer): INIT Error"
http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/professional/tib/tib7037.jhtml&lc=en#SEC8

"Kodak Digital Science 8650 PS Color Printer: Operator's Guide"
http://download.kodak.com/professional/manuals/8650/1h9657.pdf#search=%22init%20error%22

I hope that the advice in these documents helps you with your printer.
If not, you can mention the advice to Kodak technical support, so
that they might provide additional service for this problem.

Search strategy:

I used these search terms on Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Ixquick --

kodak
colorease
manual
"init error"

Note: I was able to obtain the ColorEase manual from two sources --

"Service and Support: Thermal and Photo Printers"
http://wwwca.kodak.com/global/en/service/library/printers/thermal.shtml

"User Manuals for KODAK PROFESSIONAL Products: Thermal Printers"

I'm sorry that you didn't like my answer. I didn't think that I
looked in the obvious places. Also, I didn't know that you were
hoping to find a discussion group. Rather, I believed that I provided
useful, non-obvious information to help you the failure of your
printer to initialize.

If you remain dissatisfied with my answer, you can request a refund or a repost.

Very Very poor effort. I have the manuals for this printer. As I
stated in my question "Kodak all but denies the existence fo this
printer" in otherwords, this printer is older than the technicians I'm
talking to at Kodak. I was hoping to find a disscussion group for this
printer but was unable to find one or some information not from the
Kodak site. I am capable of looking in the obvious places. I sure hope
this didn't cost me the amount I posted.

Hello, can you please give me the model number for this printer?

"Kodak ColorEase PS"

This was before model numbers. There is a windows XP driver for the
printer that comes with XP. There is very little on the web about this
printer.

Okay, I looked at my question and I asked for a maintence/service
manual. Not a users manual. I have the original users manual and was
able to find the downloadable users manual from the Kodak site myself.
I see that from using this service it's helpful to the researcher to
not only be very specific on what you want, but let them know where
you have already looked. Looking for a Kodak service manual on the
Kodak site just seemed to obvious/logical to me and figured that
researchers on this service would be a little more "outside the box".

holmesware,

If a Google Answers Researcher doesn't provide exactly what you're
looking for, the best thing to do is to use the "Request
Clarification" feature before rating the answer. This gives the
Researcher a chance to find additional material for you before a
rating is assigned. By giving a one-star rating without giving any
opportunity for further assistance, you've essentially slammed the
door in your Researcher's face.
