What would scriptor-ga quickly estimate to be the square root of pi, not using any calculating or reference material? |

Well, the unfortunate Scriptor is, alas, a complete duffer when it comes to mathematics ... so I'd prefer to remain quiet, hide in a dark corner and not say anything when asked for an estimate. But thank you very much for thinking of me! All the best, Scriptor |

Typical demonstration of Germany's humanistics-oriented educational system, inadequate teaching of mathematics. Let's see, the square of 17 is 289, and that of 18 is 324 (didn't everyone have to memorize the squares of all numbers between 1 and 25?), so the square root of pi (3.14159...) must be ... uh, ... er, let's say, ... about 1.7724531. Well, just more or less, only had to memorize the value of pi to 5 decimal places. Aren't calculators a great thing?! ;-) Really, I just wanted to say that Killermartian is being an exemplary questioner by giving recognition to Researchers who assisted in answering a question. :-) |
