Hi,
If you tell us what city or town and state the house is in, I am
pretty sure that a Researcher can find someone that may be able to
help you.

Your architect may have used a standard book of construction
estimation. Unfortunately with the recent fluctuations of the price of
fuel, copper, and goodness knows what-all in the biz, the standard may
be outdated. Even crackdowns on immigration may contribute to higher
costs.

If remodeling/repair project cost estimates in the States are anything
like those in Germany, they might include positions that are only a
very rough estimate, perhaps defining the work involved without giving
a total - just the man/hour price, leaving open the number of hours
required.
Also, I once had some drainage work done, based on a contract, but
then naively signed worksheets for hourly work. This was added to the
amount on the contract when I got the bill. The "misunderstanding"
was settle quickly with a letter, but someone else might have just
sworn and paid.
