Question ID: 766725
We are a business with a 30 workstation LAN, server running Windows
Server 2003, Standard Edition, Service Pack 1. We've had three serious
problems in the past week. Each one was identical: The Server had a
"System Failure: Stop Error". The server severed connections to all
workstations, and rebooted.

When it came back up, the server offered to report the error to
Microsoft, which I did. During the process there was an opportunity to
copy some of the technical details of the error, which I copied and
pasted below.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello motomanmatt1,

I have worked with Windows Server 2003 for some time now and I have to
admit I have not come across this error before, however I consulted my
usual sources and this is the information i have found so far.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/901150/en-us

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907242/

Are you using terminal services on this machine?

Are you using remote desktop for administration?

Check out these two microsoft articles and try and obtain the
unreleased patch from microsoft.

Let me know how this works for you, any questions do not hesitate to
leave me a comment.

Also, this problem can be fixed with this error code according to this webpage:

If it works for you, let me know and I'll post this as the answer.

Thanks,

Clarification of Question by motomanmatt1-ga on 20 Sep 2006 09:56 PDT
Thanks for your quick reply. To answer your questions:

1) Yes, several of the workstations are running in Terminal Services
(Remote Desktop).
2) Yes, we tend to administer the Server remotely (though sometimes
we'll go to the Server directly).

I hope this helps. Thanks for the links. I will study them and let
you know if they are applicable to our situation (the link to the Thin
discussion group was pretty interesting - particularly the idea that
logging off the server triggers the error. Of the three crashes we
had, two were right at 5pm (close of business). The third as in the
middle of the day, but that doesn't mean that someone mght not have
logged off for lunch?? I'm looking into it. ) I'll keep you posted.

MK

Thanks for keeping me updated.

I would also advise speaking to microsoft and telling them of the
error and of the suport IDs and they should give you the patch!
Thanks for using Google Answers!
