There was a large demonstration in the streets of West Los Angeles
yesterday afternoon/evening, but for what cause? I can find nothing
about it at www.LATimes.com, but there were hundreds (if not
thousands) of people crowding the streets at Wilshire Blvd and San
Vicente Blvd Monday September 18, 2006. They had signs and were
banging drums, and traffic was blocked and detoured because of the
gathering. Police were present, camera people were capturing the
event, but what was it all for?

Dear jeremy123456-ga,

This article from the LA Times provides the answer.

?18 Arrested in Sit-in to Support Union Drive
September 20, 2006
Eighteen people were arrested Monday afternoon during a union sit-in
that snarled traffic at the intersection of Wilshire and San Vicente
boulevards. The 18 were among about 300 marching in support of a
campaign to organize 6,000 security guards in Los Angeles County.
Officials of Service Employees International Union Local 1877 said
they chose the intersection because it is outside the headquarters of
Arden Realty, which they say is pushing for restrictions on the number
of guards who can join the union.
Arden officials could not be reached for comment.?
