I sometimes lose my internet connection for long periods of time on my
wireless connection on both my computers. I used to have a Westell
Modem with Verizon DSL. I replaced it with a Verizon Wireless
Router/Modem to set up a wireless network. My main computer is
connected with an rj -45 cable and the second computer has a wireless
card. Both computers have Windows Xp with Service pack 2.
It's strange. The "Actiontec" page that the instructions directs me
too says that the status of my network is ok and even my computer
tells me I'm connected at 100 mps. When I'm not able to use the
internet the lights on the router (Power, DSL, Internet, Ethernet)are
all green. I've called tech support and they told me to uninstall and
reinstall my NIC but I was a little leary about that. Instead I
updated the driver which seemed to fix it but it was only temporarily.
Restarting my computer doesn't help. Restarting the router doesn't
help. Resetting the router doesn't help. Restarting the wireless
service doesn't help. Release and renewing the IP address with
ipconfig from the command line doesn't help. Trying another rj-45
cable doesn't help. What should I do? |

Hello,
Is there another wireless network in your area?
Knowing this could lead me to an answer for you!
Thanks,

Hello again,
Do you know what channel your neighbor is on? If he/she is on the same
channel, you need to swap to a different channel and your network
should work fine and you should have no further problems.
If this works for you, let me know and I'll post it as the answer.

I'm not sure what my channel is. How could I go about looking it up?
If my neighbor and I are on the same channel would that explain why my
computer that's physically connected to the router loses internet
access?

it would not have any relationship as to why your machine that is
physically connected loses internet. At the time you lose internet can
you check to see if you still have a dial tone on your phone line?

Also, do you have a spare machine you could plug into the port to see
if it experiences the same problems?
What you may actually have to do is have someone come to your site to
witness what is actually going on and diagnose it better than we can
from a distance.
