I recently bought an Iomega 250 GB external firewire/usb hard drive to
backup my computer hard drive.(My computer is a PowerMac G4 with OS X,
version 10.4.7.) Iomega provided Retrospect Express, version 6.1.126,
backup software with the external hard drive.

I have a pdf version of Retrospect User's Guide, but I'd like to find
a hard-copy equivalent that I can highlight and put bookmarks in.

Having gotten no response to my question in several days, I've
modified my goal to finding a book or other hard-copy document with
general advice, not overly technical, about backing up my hard drive
and (hopefully) with some information about how to do it using
Retrospect. (One possible source I've found at Amazon is "The Backup
Book," but it covers a much wider range of information than I need.
However, if this is the closest thing to what I'm looking for, I
wouldn't rule it out.)

One of the things I'd like to know is whether it is feasible to backup
my entire hard drive, including the operating system and applications.
Another is whether having backed up everything on my hard drive it
would be feasible to restore files and folders selectively. Another is
whether I could use my external backup drive to start my computer in
the event that my internal start-up drive became damaged.

It might be that the best way of getting what I'm looking for would be
to post these specific questions on Google Answers. (I would accept
conformation of that question as a legitimate answer to my original
question. It would be helpful to have some guidance regarding a price
range that would be appropriate.)

The software was made by a company called Dantz which is now owned by EMC

Dantz:

http://www.dantz.com/

EMC:

http://www.emcinsignia.com/

Give them a call and see what they can do for you.

Starting with the freebie "express" versions usually you can upgrade
to the latest full version which gives you a manual.

Alternately, you can submit the PDF to Kinko's and they'll print you a
bound version of the PDF.

good luck
