I have a wordpress blog which receives posts from an applicaton named
"rss to blog" all has been fine and dandy until recently some of the
posts started appearing on the sidebar.

I need to figure out  what is causing this and how to avoid it.

Nope, when I remove the offending post the theme shows back as normal.

Most likely the problem is in the template. It could be missing a
<div> or closing </div> tag somewhere. I had the same
problem and it turned out that I had accidentally deleted a tag when I
was editing something else.
