I have a short .lnk file that was emailed to  me.  i can't open it for
the life of me.  i would like to either have someone give me step by
step how to open on a Mac or tell me if there is a website that offers
this service i can pay for.  thanks!

Hello Ohsocurious,

According to
  http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=LNK
it is most likely someone sent you a windows shortcut (and not a file
you can do anything with). I suggest you ask the person who sent it to
either:
 - send you the real file
OR
 - send you the location (e.g., \\server\dir\dir\whathever)
The first one is something you may be able to open, the second can be
navigated to using the built in file sharing on the Mac.
