Hi! Thanks for the question.

According to Telescope, the company that takes care of voting for
American Idol, there were 580 million combined toll-free and mobile
votes.

Cingular meanwhile, a partner of Telescope for American Idol, mentions
that text messaging for this season is pegged at 64.5 million. So
11.12% of voting was done via SMS or text messaging.

I almost forgot about this until I saw my bank statement with the bill
for this payment. Thanks very much for the answer.

I didn't realize the answer would be posted so quickly, and I didn't
realize it would be found so easily. It's my first time posting a
question on Answers. I wasn't sure if anyone would have answered so
quickly if I offered only $1 or $2.

I did get the answer I was looking for, so it was well worth it.
Thanks very much, easterangel.

i often see comments similar to this, and it always puzzles me. since
manny88131 offered to pay $10 for the answer, it is, BY DEFINITION,
worth that much to manny88131. free market, willing buyer, willing
seller, etc., etc. that's how it's supposed to work. maybe he/she
needed it quickly; the answer was provide in less than 1 hour and 15
minutes. maybe he/she is just very, very curious about this and it
was keeping them up at night. it's not really any of our business,
since you and i are really just parasites to the transaction between
manny88131 and easterangel.

what i guess you mean is, it isn't worth $10 to YOU, but luckily no
one put a gun to your head and forced you to pay $10 for it; you got
it for free.

Hi!

Please take note of the question...

"What percentage of votes cast on American Idol was via text messaging?
It's OK to use just this past year's results."

In the answer the total votes cast via toll-free number and SMS was
given. These are the only ways you can vote on American Idol. Next the
total number of SMS alone was provided and this enables us to give the
percentage.

Plus the data was current meaning numbers for this season instead of
just past year's figures.

Regards.
