I am having a problem with one web page "taking over" or coming the
desktop on its own. For example if I am working on a word document, a
web page I have minimized previously will pop back up and be
maximized. It is likely when the page updates with new information.
However, I don't want them to automatically take over the screen.
I'll click or swith the page when I am ready. How do I fix this?

There is a free application which is one of the Windows Power Tools,
called TweakUI (Tweak the User Interface). You need to obtain the
one for your version of Windows. Once it's installed, open it from
the Control Panel and go to the General tab. There you'll see an
option to 'Prevent applications from stealing focus', with some
additional options to flash the taskbar button either until you
click on it, or for a number of times set by you.

Let me know if this works for you, and I'll post it as a formal
answer.
