Hello Mackan!
Thanks for using Google Answers!
Before I begin to answer this question (which I would LOVE to do), I
need to know a few more things:
1) What type of a circulation are you considering? If my advice means
anything, I think that you should begin with the major "GLBT-friendly"
cities (San Fran, New York, Chicago, etc). Use that as a test market
and then expand from there. Or better yet, try out one city, see how
it flies, and then go where that road takes you. In order to find a
distribution company, I think that it would be a good idea to do this
because a national distributor will cost you much more than just an
arm and a leg!
2) You mentioned that you wanted to sell this book, but there are many
GLBT phonebooks that I know of which distribute to friendly
neighborhoods and are free. They make their profits via
advertisements....quite lucrative, from what I can tell. I just went
down the street and picked up a GLBT phonebook for Chicago and found
it to be pretty colorful and intricate---therefore expensive to print.
Something that I have NOT found in this book is a listing of GLBT
websites. This is a great idea and worth considering, but as you
know, the internet is practically endless--how would you decide which
sites to include and which millions of others to leave out?
I look forward to your response!
