I am thinking of puting together a book with listings of gay sites,
pubs, general info and so on, and I want to sell in in USA.

Who should I contact in order to:

1) Get someone to print it at low cost
2) Find a company that will distribute it to shops, clubs, bars all
over USA?
-or do I need to contact these one by one?

I live in Sweden and I want the book to be printed, shipped and sold
within US without it ever reaching me in this country, to keep costs
down.

Thanks!

Hello Mackan!
Thanks for using Google Answers!
Before I begin to answer this question (which I would LOVE to do), I
need to know a few more things:
1) What type of a circulation are you considering? If my advice means
anything, I think that you should begin with the major "GLBT-friendly"
cities (San Fran, New York, Chicago, etc). Use that as a test market
and then expand from there. Or better yet, try out one city, see how
it flies, and then go where that road takes you. In order to find a
distribution company, I think that it would be a good idea to do this
because a national distributor will cost you much more than just an
arm and a leg!
2) You mentioned that you wanted to sell this book, but there are many
GLBT phonebooks that I know of which distribute to friendly
neighborhoods and are free. They make their profits via
advertisements....quite lucrative, from what I can tell. I just went
down the street and picked up a GLBT phonebook for Chicago and found
it to be pretty colorful and intricate---therefore expensive to print.
Something that I have NOT found in this book is a listing of GLBT
websites. This is a great idea and worth considering, but as you
know, the internet is practically endless--how would you decide which
sites to include and which millions of others to leave out?
I look forward to your response!
Thanks for using Google! We'll get this answer solved!
Take care,
Alicia

Hi... perhaps you should consider publishing an e-book and having it
downloadable in PDF format.
