My friend has been a salesman for 10 years. He wants to transition to
raising money for a charity or non-profit(s).

1. Please list 5-6 web sites so he can start his job search.

2. Are there non-profits which will pay him a (percentage) commission
based upon the money he raises for them?

All comments greatly appreciated!

Greetings! I would suggest that the first thing your friend should
explore is the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) for
membership and networking. Their web site is located at
http://www.afpnet.org/

Currently on the AFP site are 127 job listings which can be found
through the "View all jobs" button on the web page
http://afpnet.jobcontrolcenter.com/website/17229/frame/index.cfm?loc=%2Fsearch%2Ecfm%3F

Also, if your friend will execute a search of AFP with his state, he
should be able to locate the state chapter web site of the AFP.

Other web sites I located with the search term "fundraiser for
non-profit organization job" are as follows:

ExecSearches.com non profit job listings
(Director of Development, Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund, Washington,
District of Columbia - posted 7/29/2002)

Jobs In USA - US Recruitment & Employment - International Jobs (scroll
down page to find listing below)
http://jobs.escapeartist.com/Openings/USA/
"USA - Fundraising - 15-Sep-02
Non-Profit Corp. Seeks Fundraiser
We are a non profit organization based in the U.S. with charity
projects in Central America and Mexico. We need an experienced
FUNDRAISER that can work on %%% basis from his/her home or likes to
relocate to Belize, Guatemala, Panama..."
http://jobs.escapeartist.com/Openings/USA/

[the above position offers percentage work (commission) so I would
venture to guess that other organizations would consider this method
of wages. I would suggest your friend approach all fundraising job
opportunities he explores with the option he would work for a
percentage. The same commission arrangement is true for the next
listing, too.]

Clarification of Answer by journalist-ga on 15 Oct 2002 11:20 PDT
Thank you for your generous rating of my research and I am delighted
you are pleased with the information! I would like to add a
suggestion that your friend familiarize himself with grant researching
and writing as this is an important aspect of the non-profit
fundraising arena. If he could add this skill to his abilities before
pursuing a fundraising job, it would probaly help him considerably in
securing a position.

To learn more about resources for grant fundraising, please see a
question I answered on the subject located at
https://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=threadview&id=48174 The
question addressed grant organizations for equestrian purposes but I
gave an explanation about finding grant funds through the Foundation
Center in the answer. I hope this additional information is of value
to your friend and please send him my good wishes that he finds the
job of his dreams. :)
