Dear Bryan, Sorry it took me so long to respond. I am not sure that there is a scam. It is a cultural thing. During the last weeks of September, beer manufacturers all over the country, but especially in southern Germany, are making nice profits. It is not the Germans, who are drinking. OK, it is also the Germans (who alwasy drink), but that's not the point. Most of the people who go to the Oktoberfest, though, are Japanese and Americans (who could be, of course, identified because they wear Hawaii shirts and shorts. In October, those brave Amis!). Some of these Americans are not used to drink. After all, at home all they have is Miller and Bud. That's like water. So they misspell when they type comments. That's all. Blurbs of an American who cannot hold it. And now to those who can run and drink at the same time (despite the fact that some of them are American): http://www.munich-h3.com/runs/ Best, Hungover (from tea, of course!) PG. |

Thank you so much for the PG Tips. All is now explained! Henceforth, I shall not impose my admittedly poor German on anyone whose German is even marginally better than mine ... so you are perfectly safe; Scriptor is on the cusp and *******-ga will continue sine die as the recipient of my efforts. Prost! Bryan |

This may or may not help, but splitting the word up into 2 "Pauch boden". Boden means soil. "Live probably to we on another Pauch soil meet" meet on another soil - another country? |

One of the several meanings of "wohl" is indeed "probably" (comment by bemajinn-ga): http://www.ponsline.de/cgi-bin/wb/w.pl?Richtung=DE&ID=36855pom%2FAA4znRGGI In this case, however, "lebe wohl" means "farewell": http://www.ponsline.de/cgi-bin/wb/w.pl?Richtung=ED&ID=9586poSEWqNkiPU%2Fo |

fp is right and caught my misspelling. Argh - but thanks. :-) Since the question is directed to Poli-guru, I won't post the line from a site giving translations in English, French Flemish and Estonian. |
