Where can I find miniature wargame model sets based on actual battles
in history? These sets can be either playable or not playable (not
playable means they serve as only a model).

Top19,

Are you looking for something like this?

Sort of. But that set only contains unpainted historically accurate
army and soldier figurines. Im looking for a set that is completely
finished (painted, glued, and what not) and depicts an actual battle
in history.

Top19,

Please let me know if this is more on target.

Yes, that is much more on target. The models are realistic, replica
scale, and already come painted. Now I justed need a whole set (or way
to cobble together a whole set) of a historical battle.

From Trinkets to Treasures:

The William Britain Company began producing toy soldiers in 1893 and
is still today recognized as the world leader in metal soldiers. No
detail is too small! Each finely sculpted 1:32nd scale soldier begins
as an artist's sketch, with particular attention paid to proper
perspective and body mechanics. Details from uniform insignias to
appropriate period hairstyles are authenticated by historians and
through a vast library of books. The sketches are then sculpted in
wax, and rubber molds are formed around the wax figures. Consumer-
safe lead-free pewter is then hand- poured into the molds and
spun-cast. The soldiers are then each painstakingly painted by hand.
This same meticulous process is repeated across the entire range of
Britains figures. We carry a complete line of figures, vehicles and
accessories from World War II through the Napoleonic War.

Is there anything like a floor, board, table or mat that I could put
them on? I'm not talking about a full fledged historically accurate
topography clay model, but maybe a simple painted, board with a river
and a couple of mountains/trees.

One Piece Forest Board

?This board is a big 19"X30" of well designed forest. You can enter
this board at one of four different locations and follow a pathway up
a gentle slope to the top of the hill which offers a variety of
vantage points. Or you can follow a pathway to a small clearing and
begin to battle the enemy there. This board was designed to provide
easy access to the armies with wide pathways and trees placed to
prevent them getting in the way. The 57 trees give this board the full
feeling of a heavily treed forest without overpowering the board.?

Simple Instructions for making your own terrain

One meter square

?I like to get a lump of MDF cut at my local DIY shop.?

?So there's your battlefield, it looks a bit empty and dull. Start by
putting some grass mat down - you can get this from model railway
shops in various colours. I have some nice greenish fuzzy carpet that
I picked up after an exhibition, I use this for the ground work on my
table.?

?With a field of grass you need to add some terrain for your troops to
hide behind and move around. Here are a few suggestions:

Rocks, not often used in WWII, but useful if you're doing maybe a
desert village or a beach landing - pick them up in the garden or park
- don't pick up too many as there can sometimes be restrictions on
removing rocks from public places.

Twigs - make excellent barricades and fallen trees, again search the
garden or park.
Roads: take a trip back down the DIY store and buy a belt sander belt.
Cut this up and dry brush to bring out the texture, There's your
road.?

?Walls: can be made from almost anything, cardboard, foam core, cork
tiles, etc. Just stick to a base of card and paint and flock.

Hedges can be made from green scourers, lichen or rubberised horse hair.
Fences can be made from strips of balsa wood just cut up with scissors
and fixed to a base?
