Are you thinking of "O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana?

You can hear a MIDI version of the song playing at this page:

Stan's Carmina Burana Page

If you think that this is it, I can provide a couple of additional
links concerning this work as an answer.

Hi sirluke4,

"O Fortuna" appears at the beginning and end of Carl Orff's "Carmina
Burana," which has been recorded many times. Here's a link to the
bestselling version of "Carmina Burana" on Amazon.com:

"Orff: Carmina Burana" [Conductor: Riccardo Muti]

sirluke4: Operas are not performed at football games...doing that
would make for a really long halftime. You probably meant to ask: What
operatic excerpt is often played at football games?
