I would like a recommendation for 3 reputable hosting companies that
offer shopping cart/ecommerce capabilities with the following:
1. where I can upload the setup info for 300-500 products in a file
(as opposed to manually entering each onto a form)
2. where I can ftp or otherwise upload the accompanying
product photos (300-500) without uploading each individually.
The above two are most important, here are the other requirements (or
strong 'wants'):
3. the usual storefront/shopping cart services: where I have the
flexibility automatically or manually designing the site, and allowing
people to purchase my products and pay for them via credit card,
paypal, or other methods.
4. Flexible but turnkey (ie I don't want to install or upload software
or pay attention to the site other than for product management).
5. use my own domain; provide at least 5 domain specific pop emails.
6. reasonably priced ... I've seen most of the above usually for less
than $29 a month, sometimes even as low as $19 ... but not all have
both my #1 and #2 requirements.
7. Has a phone number for support, of course email support (online
chat is even nicer). Support for the storefront/carte capability by
the **hosting** company without referring me to another company)
7. reputable (tough - but one where I can have some comfort level
that the hosting company is not a "fly by night" or will be out of
business tomorrow). the support options reveals some of this, as well
as usually a list of client websites that use their hosting/services.

Dear vodguy-ga
I don't have time to do the digging you want for three options.
So I will give you one that seems to meet your criteria:
Hostgator.com
For under $10 per month, you can get all the POP3 accounts you want,
unlimited domains if you want to set up related shops, 24/7 support
online, or by phone during reasonably long hours. Great responsiveness.
Several statistics tools, autoresponders, mailing lists...
http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml
A choice of shopping carts are included.
I think you'll like the Zen Cart - it looks like it will practically
build your site, even showing featured merchandise.
http://www.zencart.com/
With their Fantastico tool, you can pluck any of an assortment
of site building tools, in addition to the one that comes with
the control panel.
Anyway, it's worth your time to look at this.
In over 10 years online, searching for solid tools and support,
this is the best I've found - ironically, for the lowest price.
Best wishes,
Your TaxMama-ga

Thanks for the post ... I have never really seen a google-answers
response start out with "I don't really have the time for ..."
I assure you it probably took longer to write my question than it does
to search for the answer (for someone who knows this subject).
My criteria, in a nutshell:
+ Provide a choice of 3 reasonably priced, reputable, ecommerce hosted
services, where I at least have the ability to upload info/photos for
300-500 products.
+ the 2 links provided are really for the same shopping cart s/w
(Zencart), and after 5-10 mins of scanning the site, it still was not
clear as to whether or not it would do what I need.
