In the late 1950's or early 1960's Jack Paar had a late night TV show.
After visiting England and (I believe) one night when Geneviève was a
guest. He told about his attempts to call up China and visit China. 
His people could not place a phone call from the US and when in
England he had tried to talk to the Chinese Embacy but had made the
mistake of calling there country "Red China" in stead of "The People's
Republic of China" and he said they lost their tempter and when he
left the Embacy he was sure "I'll neve visit China."  It is possible
to get the tape or a transcript of that show?
