No, it is a rubber item so that the blade can be wiped across it
removing the cream. I saw it being used at a barbers in Milan a few
weeks ago but the owner said that they had no extras to sell since
they were now museum pieces.

I rather doubt that those are what Codogan is referring to, without
ever having heard of or seen such a rubber item. As I remember,
barbers shaving men with a straight razor, draped a hand towel over
their other forearm/wrist and wiped the blade on that.

Codogan,
That information makes the problem more difficult.
Since I doubt that you shave with a straight razor, I suppose you want
something exactly or very similar like what you saw in Milan.

However, if you do want a rubber bowl to wipe the edge on, maybe this would do:

http://www.polymerclayexpress.com/images/plastbowl.jpg

It is a 4-5 inch "rubber mixing bowl" used for preparing small amounts of plaster.
Not very attractive, and costs $14 To find it on, scroll down towards

It is for using a straight edge razor with and is similar in shape to
a small ashtray.
