I am investigating the beam size requirements to properly span 14? ft
in a basement. The home is a simple 1 story ranch with 2 x 8 floor
joists. The area above the proposed span is open living space with no
other walls or loading factors. I would like to qualify a S beam 7 x
20 x 14? This beam is the center support for the above floor system
which extends 12? equally perpendicular outward to the foundation
walls.
