Nystatin belongs to a class of anti-fungals referred to as azoles.
While Nystatin is only available as a prescription in the USA (OTC in
Canada), other antifungals are available OTC, and should work as well
as Nystatin.

The most common ones used for Thrush include Clotrimazole (Canesten is
one brand) and Miconazole. This is available in both ointment as well
as vaginal pessary forms (for vaginal thrush or candidiasis) These are
relatively cheap. Drugstore has it for around $8.00

If however you still end up needing a prescription I recommend you
call your doctor's office. For the record, Nystatin is not approved
for systemic use, i.e. it is not available in tablet form (only
lozenges or ointments). Other treatments for oral thrush include Oral
fluconazole (for which you will need a prescription)
