I am 21 male 6 feet and 150 pounds. I am in University during mid-terms and I have a busy schedule. I have severe shots of pain in the right tempal area. What is this due to and how do stop it? It has been happening for 24 hours now, but has never before. They last for 2-10 seconds, but sometimes a dozen times in a minute and rarely only several for 10 min. I have taken two "Tylenol 2"s today. Am I overreacting or should I go to doctors? Is it from speaking on a cell phone? |

It might be nothing, but you will want to find that out from a physician. This is not the right forum for acute medical advice. |

Frank is right: see a doctor soonest. But, if you suspect your cell phone ... (Interesting theory) Why not stop using it for a few weeks as an experiment? (C'mon you KNOW that you can do without it for a few weeks.) Here's to Your Better Health! Bryan |

I find that spectacle frames can cause a lot of pain on your ear. |

the three things that cause nasty headaches with me are: not drinking enough water. Deydration causes severe headaches. (If you aren't sure if you're deydrated, check the colour of your urine. It should be very pale in colour. If is a definite yellow colour, then chances are you're slightly dehydrated. 2) Working a long time at my computer with the screen brightness up too high. I was fortunate just to have headaches. My poor older sister went off and had all sorts of brain scans because she was having such severe pains and difficulties seeing. Then someone mentioned about her screen brightness and voila! no more headaches. 3) IF I am sickening for the flu, I'll get short sharp pains in my head. Plus, if I have a long chat on my mobile phone (that's an Australian cell phone) I get dizzy. So I don't have long chats anymore. Don't underestimate the risk of the mobile phone. Finally, if you are suddenly having headaches/pains that you can't explain and they're worrying you, then you are not overreacting if you go and get this checked out by a doctor. Go on, phone now. But not on your cell phone! |

Nope, My differential diagnoses for your condition are as following: 1. Tension headache: Typical feature is two-sided headache, but one-sided can be found. It should be like dump pain. Tylenol or NSAIDS should be okay for treatment. 2. Migraine: it is likely to be yours as one-sided headache. it may be trobbling in nature, some people may have "aura": i.e. lighting in their vision or blurred vision for a short period. Please avoid smoking, alcohol, coffee/tea, caffeine containing beverages. It is okay to take tylenol 2 caps every 4-6 hrs as needed. If not resolved, try NSAIDS like brufen or naproxen. 3. Cluster headache: it should be severe with tearing, flushing at face. Less likely to be yours. Hope this helps. Thira Woratanarat MD, MMedSc, DHFM Thailand |
