Hi Again Anfi I've now got access to the Times Digital Library ... WOW ... Aren't I clever? (Actually, it's easy when you know how.) However, I have been 'looking into' Lady (Esther) Makgill and what do I find? As reported on 26 Sept 1935, she was acquitted of cheque fraud ... But, according to a report on 8 July 1937, she was then sent to jail for (apparently) the same offence! I am sure that you can untangle this web for a mere peasant in this business. All the Best Bryan the Puzzled |

Bryan, It appears she was a persistent kiter. It was not the old offences, these were new ones committed in 1937. The article of Wednesday, July 07, 1937, states that ?the charges relate to seven separate incidents between March 11 and April 2 this year?. The dates are repeated in the article of 8 July. Glad to hear you?ve gained access to this valuable resource. Have this one on me. answerfinder |

Yes, it's quite useful for picking up forged cheques laying on the ground. |

This case makes me think of the movie "Double Jeopardy" where a wife is sent to jail for the murder of her husband (he framed her, and he was not really dead... sorry to give away the plot). While in prison she got some advice from a prisonmate that she could kill him for real when she got out and she would not go to jail because that would be double jeopardy. I always knew that was bad advice because it would be a separate offense... I wonder if the movie writers knew that or if they were really that much in the dark. |

I don't care, Jack ... For me, Ashley Judd can do no wrong. Case dismissed! |

Hi Anfi Very many thanks for the link. I am trying to get some more dirt on Lady M and I can sense a new question coming up for you, after I've done a bit more ferreting. So, please, no more hols for the time being! All the Best Bryan |
