In the 1960's, I first saw a movie on TV in which Lionell Barrymore
played the role of a washed-up doctor, begging for money, in India, I
believe, but I can't remember the title if it.

It was a very minor scene of an old movie that predated the time
and maybe even television. I saw that same minor sequence of that
same old movie quite a few times over the years, but never the whole
flick.

I want to know how his role went in that old movie and how it ended.

I originally thought it was Lee J. Cobb, but a friend suggested it
might have been Lionell Barrymore instead. He could have been the
actor whom I mistakenly thought was LJ Cobb, so please use him as the
reference with all the same background info around it.

I don't know. I need you to do the research, then give me the answers.

PS to yesterday's Reply:

When you said, "It's a Wonderful Life," did you mean the
Christmas-time movie with Jimmy Stewart? If so, rule-out because that
might have been Lionell Barrymore, but it certainly wasn't the movie I
vaguely remember from the mid-1960's, etc.

If that was Lionell Barrymore, it was an older version of himself
because he was a grumpy, old man and the actor, whom I originally
thought was LJ Cobb, was significantly younger and not
wheelchair-bound like Lionell Barrymore's role was in the former
movie.

Please, give it top priority and I will meet you bill because a
number of my friends & contacts are dying to know, too.

In fact, now we're all begging for help from a stranger. LOL.

Will you forward my request for me? It is a trivia question that has
been driving us crazy, so it is serious enough for top level answers.

I will contact the address you gave me, but what should I say?
Give them the whole run-down or what?

I can't really forward your request to anyone. It's already here, for
all Researchers to see.

As for contacting Google Answers support, I think that you can say
anything that you perceive as a problem.

Justaskscott, I would have to join the IMDB, so would you, please do
the research for me?

I don't like giving out my credit card numbers for minor
transactions because of the risks associated with it. Large
purchases, I don't mind, such as flights and hotels, but just to hold
for two weeks and then never to use goes against the grain with me.

You don't have to use IMDB if you have another site from which
Google does have existing access.

drrichard,

You do not need to pay to join the IMDb. Only the IMDb Pro service
requires payment. However, I don't think it's worth your while to
pursue the links posted by bo7a-ga in which Lionel Barrymore's roles
as Dr. Gillespie are referenced. Dr. Gillespie was a supporting role
in the "Dr. Kildare" films, and I cannot imagine that he would ever
have been depicted begging for money in India.

An acquaintance of mine is a devotee of the Barrymore family, and I
emailed him to ask if he had any suggestions. Unfortunately, he said
that he had never heard of Lionel Barrymore having played such a role.

I have no preference nor knowledge of the researchers, so I wouldn't
choose one over the other. This is business, so nothing personal. I
only wish an answer to the trivia question that has everyone going
crazy, so whoever finds it first is the winner to me!

Can someone think of something on their own to search for? How
about my original suggestion of contacting Lee J. Cobb's relatives,
former co-stars or agent to ask them? My ex-wife and I exhausted
every possible lead years ago, so I suggested going straight to the
"horse's mouth" for the answer.

Incidentally, I met Lee J. Cobb once when I was a high school kid
in the mid-1970's, so I remember him personally, which is why I still
feel it was Cobb after all.

Remember this: It was a very minor sequence of an old movie that
had little to do with the theme, so it might have been a cameo
appearance of his that would not rate with along side all his starring
roles, which is why IMDB.com might not include it as a credit to his
name.

                                                                -RK
