As the Greek philosophers would have said: "Gnóthi seautón!"

It might be said that ultimately we are all our own teachers. When
presented with the huge amount of information that the world offers
us, we select which bits to accept and retain. Although not all
acquisition of knowledge is voluntary, some is under our conscious
control. The choice of what to learn, how to learn it, and what to do
with it makes each man his own teacher, in a sense.
