First, read the owner's manual. Do what it says. It may not have a recommended change interval! The VW transaxle is based on the old Borg Warner design and is fairly rugged. You should be able to go at least 50,000 miles before a fluid and filter change. Some manufacturers don't recommend one until 100,000 miles. Basically as long as the fluid is nice and pink you don't have any shift problems or slipping you can probably get by without changing it. Automatics last almost forever if they don't run low on fluid. If you want to be sure, change it out every 50,000 miles. I have never heard of a transmission manufacturer recommend a change interval sooner than that. For more info you can check my site: http://econofix.com/atrans.html |
